Welcome to another edition of the Waikite Valley Thermal Pools update for September 2009. We have been very busy with swimmers and campers over the last few months and the feedback has been outstanding.
Te Manaroa Spring Eco Trail
Waikite Valley Thermal Pools has the added bonus of having an eco trail included as part of the admission fee. The Te Manaroa Spring walkway and eco-trail takes visitors to the largest single source of boiling water in New Zealand.
Experience the ‘living waters’ of Waikite Valley and see the violently magnificent Te-Manaroa Spring as it discharges thousands of litres of geothermal energy into the Otamakokore River that winds its way down stream leaving a trail of calcite formations in its wake.
Our informative Eco-Trail is of both geological and botanical interest. This educational walk takes you up to the Te Manaroa Spring. Along the way you will learn about ferns and mosses and formations only found in a few geothermal areas in the southern Rotorua area.
Pools Temperatures
To enhance your bathing experience, all pools at Waikite Valley are drained and refilled each night.
You won't find bathing water this pure anywhere else in New Zealand! Waikite Valley Thermal Pools in Rotorua is a natural thermal bathing complex. Water for our pools comes straight out of the Te Manaroa natural boiling spring. The water is then cooled before entering and exiting all of the pools.
The water is not treated with any chemicals whatsoever nor is it filtered or recycled into the pools again in any way. The ‘Living Waters’ of Waikite Valley are the only pools of this size in New Zealand using 100% pure natural geothermal water.
